Naughty Corner - Attempt #2

Sitting in the naughty corner looking longingly at his magnets

Well, today's result was no different. He still refuses to say Sorry. It's the funniest thing...it's so hard not to laugh. You have to understand - every other word that I ask Zachary to say he makes a good attempt EXCEPT this one!

Gymnast in the making?

We were folding laundry together when I looked up and saw Zachary in this crazy pose...and holding it!

The Naughty Corner - Attempt #1

We are finally having to think about discipline. I've avoided this for as long as possible, but today was the breaking point. Zachary had thrown his food on the floor for the last time! It's really not about the food, he is just being outright disobedient. He'll get my attention, look me in the eye, and chuck his food as if to say, "Ha! What are you going to do about it?" So...I'm doing something about it!

I've decided to try using the "naughty corner" method (see Supernanny) for cases where Zachary is being willfully disobedient.

From what I understand, the naughty corner works like this:

- child does something wrong

- you give the child a warning and explain the consequence for doing it again

- when they do it again...place them in the naughty corner for their age x 1 min., which for Zachary is 1 minute

- at the end of their time you explain to them again what they did wrong

- and then they are supposed to say, "Sorry Momma"

Well, Zachary can't say the words yet, but he can sure let you know what he thinks!

The OCD continues...

Today Zachary discovered the broom!

How do you teach an 18 month old not to sweep the carpet??

This pretty much went on all day!!

A daily ritual gone OCD

Every day it's the same thing. After Zachary eats his breakfast, I grab a wet paper towel and wipe him down AND the floor! But today was different...

After I got him down from his chair, instead of running off to play toys, he got a paper towel for himself - got down on his hands and knees - and proceeded to scrub the kitchen floor with vigor. And it didn't stop there!

Here is 4 minutes of our day... (Whose child is this anyway??)

Apparently his obsession has transferred because he hasn't stopped hammering since.

Yes, it's true. Our little one is now a little boy.
And yes, I do call him Littles.

Happy February 4th Dane!

February 4th is a special date for Dane and me.

8 years ago today we officially started dating. We were in the Glenn Ellyn Starbucks sipping some warm drinks when after almost closing the place out Dane asked, "So...can I date you?" He made my guarded heart melt and had it from then on.

One year later on February 4 (after much elaborate build up including a steak dinner, dessert at the Melting Pot - where he took me on our first date - and more dessert at his place) Dane proposed to me using the same verse his grandfather had used to propose marriage to his grandmother.

"O magnify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together."
- Psalm 34:3

I love you Dane Calvin! I look forward to spending the rest of my life living this out with you.

Does anyone else's child do this?

Zachary has begun a new tradition of stopping whatever he's doing when he hears the word "nap" and runs for the corner as if we can't see him or get to him!
